Competition Heats Up For A2D Company Dancers! http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Addicted2Dance/~3/zAql4t2OnyM/ http://a2dance.com/2012/03/competition-heats-up-for-a2d-company-dancers/#comments Thu, 15 Mar 2012 11:57:43 +0000 Deirdre Lindsay http://a2dance.com/?p=1220 New York City Dance Alliance - CompetitionFor competitive dancers like our talented group at Addicted 2 Dance (A2D) in Ambler, Spring brings more than nicer temperatures and blooming flowers. In the dance world, spring is dance season! Over the last five months, A2D dancers have prepared and perfected their routines and will compete alongside dozens of other schools from the tri-state area in a series of events.

This weekend marks the beginning of the 2012 Competition Season for the A2D Company Dancers. The Philadelphia Convention Center will host the New York City Dance Alliance (NYCDA) where half of A2D’s prepared routines will compete. NYCDA combines the format of a convention, where dancers ranging from 6-19 plus several A2D instructors take dance classes all day and take part in scholarship auditions with competition, which takes place in the evening.

Dancers then have back-to-back competitions to finish out the month of March. The first competition displaying all 28 A2D Company routines comes at the StarQuest Competition held in Lancaster, PA. The following weekend, the team heads to the Philadelphia Airport Marriott for the Turn It Up Dance Competition.

Our 60 Company Dancers are anxious and excited to showcase their efforts in front of esteemed judges and enthusiastic audiences! Stay tuned for recaps from these terrific events.

Ballet Proves Popular at A2D! http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Addicted2Dance/~3/c2Dc-FYKAic/ http://a2dance.com/2012/03/ballet-proves-popular-at-a2d/#comments Thu, 08 Mar 2012 22:27:11 +0000 Sean Rose http://a2dance.com/?p=1211 Ballet is popular! Across all ages and experience levels, Ballet classes at Addicted 2 Dance are very popular amongst students. While many take ballet as their primary area of study, a good number of students take it to become more well-rounded in dance. In addition, A2D Company dancers take ballet as part of their general studies.

In the Ballet II Preteen/Teen class featured below, teacher Kim Landle instructs the class on a variety of exercises to continue the positive development of the class. Enjoy!

Up All Night – A2D Sleepover Tons of Fun! http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Addicted2Dance/~3/CAH8G6-KJ7E/ http://a2dance.com/2012/03/up-all-night-a2d-sleepover-tons-of-fun/#comments Fri, 02 Mar 2012 02:00:28 +0000 Deirdre Lindsay http://a2dance.com/?p=1201 Generally, when dancers stroll into Addicted 2 Dance (A2D), they are equipped with their dance bags, carrying various shoes, clothes and a drink. Last Saturday, 40 Addicted 2 Dance students arrived at the dance studio in Ambler with their sleeping bags and pillows in tow for the first ever A2D sleepover!

What do dancers do when they’re at a dance studio sleepover? We now know the answer – DANCE! With music pumping in two of the three studios, most girls chose to turn and twirl the night away. A few took breaks to play board games and watch movies in the parent lounge.

Everyone enjoyed pizza and snacks, and by midnight the attending adults managed to get the kids zipped in their bags for the evening. The chaperones were reminded of how much 12-year-old girls had to discuss, as whispering continued into the wee hours.

The sleepy group enjoyed Ambler Donuts and juice in the morning before being picked up. It’s safe to say that many A2D parents enjoyed a peaceful Sunday afternoon after our fun filled evening at A2D! We’re already looking forward to next year!

Not Addicted 2 “Dance Moms” http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Addicted2Dance/~3/xoleqi40sTg/ http://a2dance.com/2012/02/not-addicted-2-dance-moms/#comments Sun, 19 Feb 2012 13:42:21 +0000 Deirdre Lindsay http://a2dance.com/?p=1105 Normal Dance Moms at Addicted 2 Dance“Is your studio like Dance Moms?” asks a new parent.

“Are competitions like those on Dance Moms?” asks a new Company Dancer father.

As studio owners who run the best dance studio in Ambler with positivity, praise, and professionalism, it becomes frustrating that the biggest example of our industry is being portrayed in such a negative way, as on the Lifetime TV show Dance Moms. Of course, “reality” television is meant to be explosive and drama-filled, but starting a series with a Pastor/Dance Mom screaming and cursing back and forth with the studio owner shows you the direction the show is heading.

We watched last year as dancers were told to “fix” their bow-legged knees and as young girls were berated time and again, even after coming in first place. But into the second season, with constant screaming, cursing between the “Dance Moms” and Abby Lee (the director of the studio), not to mention endless crying from the dancers AND the “Dance Moms” – you have to ask yourself, when is enough, enough?

So what are REAL “Dance Moms” like? Dance moms do not hop on a tour bus to take six dancers to competition. Moms get up very early, with their dancers, and drive to the destination where they haul costumes and dance bags. They apply makeup and fix their dancer’s hair. They make sure their dancer has healthy food to eat and water or sports drinks to hydrate them. REAL competition dancers are not given a private room to get ready in. Instead, REAL dance moms jump around other dancer’s bags and costumes from other schools. REAL dance moms help to do quick changes and help make sure all your costume pieces are properly put away. REAL dance moms sit through hours and hours of other school’s routines, applauding for each one. The only time a REAL dance mom cries is when their dancer is on stage, performing the routine they have worked so hard on.

Could a network run “Soccer Moms”, “Football Moms” or “Cheerleading Moms” and find a group of talented kids, overbearing mothers and a mean-spirited, screechy coach? Of course. But for now, we’re stuck with Dance Moms.

Until its run ends, we’ll have to keep answering, “No, Addicted 2 Dance is NOTHING like Dance Moms.”
